Felt Side and Wire Side The side of a sheet of paper that was against the wire of the mould when formed is called the Wire Side. It is usually a little smoother than the Felt Side which would not have touched the mould but would have been in contact with the Felt when couched.
Mould The tool used to form the sheets in the papermaking process.
Stuff The mixture of papermaking fibres with a much larger amount of water that had been fully beaten and was ready to be made into paper.
Vatman The man who formed each sheet of paper by dipping a Mould fitted with a Deckle into the suspension of stuff in the Vat and then lifting it out and shaking it to get an even formation.
