I am sorry to report that Ron Macdonald passed away in November. According to Serge Pirard (who now owns Ron's loom) since 1985, Ron made more than 650 moulds and deckles, shipped to people in the UK, Europe, the USA, Australia and beyond. This is a an amazingly high number and those moulds are a lasting tribute to his skill and ingenuity. Ron's company Edwin Amies and Son Ltd also made dandy rolls and cylinder moulds and he ran a coppersmith business too. Over the years Ron was in contact with many papermakers of all sizes and he will be remembered for his kindness, patience and good humour as well as his beautiful moulds.
We are planning to publish a tribute to Ron Macdonald in the British Association of Paper Historians Quarterly in April. If you have recollections or anecdotes that you would like to contribute, please can you email me by early January 2018.
